Scientific conference on “Araz-Turkic Republic: formation, activity, results” was held in Nakhchivan Division of ANAS.
The event is devoted to the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Araz-Turkic Republic.
The conference was opened by the chairman of the department, academician Ismayil Hajiyev and talked about his place and service of the Araz-Turkic Republic, which was established on November 3, 1918. He noted that in the first year of the activity of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) it encountered difficult internal and external factors and could not pay any attention to the Nakhchivan region.
It was noted that its area was 8,7 thousand square meters. km, borders with population of more than one million people covering Nakhchivan, Sharur-Daralayaz, Ordubad district, Sardarabad, Ulukhanli, Vedibasar, Gamarli, Mehri, Surmeli and other areas.
The academician said that the republic, which was overthrown in March 1919, played an important role in the region’s destiny and provided the territorial integrity of the ADR.
Then, senior scientific researcher of the Department of New and Recent History of the Institute of History, Ethnography and Archeology, PhD in history Yashar Rahimov’s “Socio-political situation in the region on the eve of the formation of the Araz-Turkic Republic”, leading scientific researcher of that department, PhD in history Musa Guliyev’s ” Participation of Nakhchivan Military Servicemen in the Activities of the Araz-Turkic Republic”, Head of Caucasus History Department, PhD in History, Associate Professor Emin Shikhaliyev’s ” Aras-Turkic Republic’s Creation and Protection of the Region from Armenian Invaders” and other reports were listened.
