CSL and the Ombudsman’s Office signed a memorandum of cooperation

The Central Scientific Library of ANAS together with the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan held an event titled “Establishing lasting cooperation in the field of human rights education.”

Director of the Institute of Petrochemical Processes named after Yusif Mammadaliyev, academician Vagif Abbasov spoke about the activities of the Ombudsman in the field of legal education in Azerbaijan and Professor Elmira Suleymanova’s activities as a scientist, public figure and ombudsman.

Director of the Central Scientific Library Leyla Imanova highly appraised the submission of a collection of electronic publications of the Ombudsman Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the library. L.Imanova added that including collections of different organizations in the National Digital Memory (NDM) database in electronic format will continue in 2018. She informed about the NDM base, which has been put into operation and elaborated, and other significant results achieved by CSL in 2017.

Employee of CSL Khayala Kerimova acquainted participants with the life and activity of Professor Elmira Suleymanova, as well as her publications. It was noted that there are 204 copies of documents in the collection submitted by the Ombudsman Office to CSL. Documents are consisted of 164 books, 23 booklets, 5 reference books, 7 brochures 2 catalogs, 2 lifletes and 1 magazine in which 171 copies are in Azerbaijani, 12 copies in English, 2 copies in Russian, 19 copies in different languages.

Professor Nadir Ismayilov, Head of the Bibliography Department of Baku State University, noted that the NDMproject was important for the protection and use of information.

Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova has attracted the attention of the event participants to the work done in Azerbaijan in the direction of human rights and freedoms, the value given by national leader Heydar Aliyev to education and library. She emphasized the importance of youths’ attention to science and education and stressed the role of libraries in this case. Noting that the event was dedicated to the book, Suleymanova called the presentation of the electronic editions of the Office to CSL as a right choice in terms of information policy.

Later, a collection of electronic publications of the Office of the Ombudsman was submitted to the CEC. It was stated that the electronic version of the publications prepared by the Office of the Ombudsman will be included in the National Digital Memory database of the Central Scientific Library and will be registered in the electronic catalog. Memorandum on cooperation was signed between the two organizations. At the end the Honorary reader card of the library was presented to Commissioner for Human Rights, Professor Elmira Suleymanova for contribution to library funds including the NDM database to enrichment of legal literacy and materials reflecting Azerbaijani reality, Professor Aslan Mammadli for preparing annotation to 7 of the 17 oldest books digitized in CSL in 2016, which protected in Azerbaijani libraries.
